On January 30, the Assessment and Noise Group of the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department (EPD) conducted environmental data testing on a foundation pit air dome project (single-layer structure) constructed by Broadwell. The results demonstrated that the structure blocks approximately 18 decibels (dB) of noise. Conducted using scientific and standardized methodology, this test validates the actual efficacy of Broadwell air domes in noise control.

Notably, the subject of this test was a single-layer air dome structure. In practice, air domes utilize various structural configurations, each with distinct sound insulation profiles. For example, the Shenzhen Bao'an Brigade excavation air dome (utilizing an air-pillow design) achieves sound insulation of up to 30 dB; meanwhile, Broadwell’s double-layer membrane system with added insulation reaches 35 dB, equivalent to the acoustic performance of reinforced concrete buildings.

For entertainment and sports scenarios, Broadwell has further elevated sound insulation standards and introduced an internal acoustic optimization technology—the EchoGard 360° Acoustic System. Through multi-technology synergy, Broadwell’s air dome music venues can achieve professional-grade sound insulation of 50 dB, rivaling the acoustic environments of recording studios and concert halls.

As urban development advances, noise from foundation pit construction is drawing increasing scrutiny. Traditional soundproofing measures often come at a high cost and offer limited effectiveness. As a novel, eco-friendly building form, Broadwell air domes not only effectively suppress construction noise but also provide higher standards for noise management in the cultural and entertainment sectors. They are particularly suitable for indoor musical performances, helping to mitigate environmental impact when hosting activities in city centers.

The outstanding performance of Broadwell air domes in noise control offers a new technical pathway for urban noise governance. This innovative solution holds significant practical value, especially in major cities like Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Shanghai, where land resources are scarce and environmental sensitivity is high. Broadwell will use this test as a catalyst to further expand the deployment and application of air domes in these fields, empowering the technology to play a greater role in driving sustainable urban development globally.
